Biography

Emily Zarka is a Ph.D. candidate in British Romantic Literature with an emphasis on the Gothic. Her research explores the roles of desire and knowledge dissemination in portrayals of undead characters produced during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Zarka has taught literature, film and media, and writing classes at Arizona State University. She is a reoccurring guest lecturer on the horror film and has served as an invited speaker for various events for her knowledge of zombie history. She participated in ASU’s Frankenstein Bicentennial Project, including contributions to the 2016 Frankenstein at 200 Hayden Library display, and provided annotations for the forthcoming online edition of Frankenstein. She will defend her dissertation Spring 2018 tentatively titled “Monstrous Bodies of Knowledge: The Undead as Epistemological Tool in the Romantic Period.”

Education

Zarka graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Unversity of Colorado with both Bachelor of Arts, English and Bachelor of Science, Journalism degrees.
