English CARE committee 'adopting' families this season

The Department of English's Community Engagement Committee (a.k.a. "CARE") is once again partnering with local agencies to “adopt” families struggling with holiday expenses by providing fun gifts and clothing (from family lists) and grocery store food cards.

We will adopt one ASU staff family and several community families vetted by St. Vincent de Paul depending on the level of donations. Usually we adopt a total of 4 to 5 small families. A St. Vincent de Paul food pantry also donates two boxes of food and a turkey to the community families.

Adopted families would love to receive money donations (which we convert to the many gifts we buy).

Please make checks out to Karen Dwyer. You will receive an email confirmation, copied to Adelheid Thieme, for the amount donated.

We will also need four to five shoppers and at five to eight wrappers for this project. More about that later.

Thank you for your strong and continued support. In the last five years this department has provided thousands of meals to the hungry, thousands of snacks to homeless teens, thousands to animal rescue and relief, and scores of holiday gifts to struggling local families. This is in addition to the thousands of books donated to two local schools last spring. Your support is very appreciated by these organizations and by families struggling to provide for their children. Every bit helps.
