English majors gain skills that can take them anywhere

At ASU, we have one of the largest English departments in the nation, which enables us to provide students with a greater diversity of offerings than most universities. For example, we offer a bachelor of arts degree in Film and Media Studies, which includes coursework in screenwriting, film styles and genres, media industries, and media and society.

Our goal is to educate citizens who can think, read, write and act in robust and significant ways to meet new challenges, and the critical thinking, reading comprehension and analytic expression skills that are cultivated while earning a degree in English are transferrable into any endeavor. Earning an undergraduate or graduate English degree from ASU will serve you in any art form, any discipline, any profession. Here is just a sampling of career opportunities open to English majors.

Brittany Hilgers: From ASU to Hollywood

“You may find that the humanities major with extensive college experience in dealing with complex material handles the challenge better – more comprehensively, more imaginatively – than the business or finance major.”
