Foundation Professor of English Neal A. Lester, who also directs ASU's Project Humanities, was honored with an Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion Award by the ASU Committee for Campus Inclusion.

The award acknowledges ASU faculty, staff, students, and groups as well as community individuals and groups who show "dedication toward promoting diversity and inclusion at ASU" in order to "make our campus environment an enriching, positive one for all students, faculty, and staff."

Award criteria were:

  • Demonstration of continuous commitment to cultural diversity (inclusive of gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc.) and inclusion;
  • Coordination or sponsorship of programming that promotes and cultivates diversity and inclusion;
  • Demonstrably model respectful treatment in interactions and communications with others.

Lester was presented with the award at a breakfast at the Karsten Golf Course on April 13.
