Department of English faculty members Jessica Early and Christina Saidy, both English Education specialists, are co-PIs on a project that was awarded $20,000 from the National Writing Project (NWP) as part of its College-Ready Writers Program (CRWP).

The program will be administered through the Central Arizona Writing Project (CAWP) at ASU. CAWP, housed in the Department of English, is one of three Arizona sites of the National Writing Project. The NWP offers professional development in the teaching of writing and literacy for K-12 districts, schools, and teachers.

According to the NWP, the purpose of the CRWP funding initiative is "to assure [that] more teachers have the ability to teach college and career-ready writing—with a specific emphasis on writing arguments based on nonfiction texts; an important skill every young adult needs."

Early and Saidy will attend a Launch Meeting of the CRWP Advanced Institute sites March 18-19 in Washington D.C., where they will strategize CAWP's involvement.
