Zoila Bardales Harris, a junior in ASU's W.P. Carey School of Business, has won a second-level prize of $2,500 in the 2016-17 ASU Changemaker Challenge competition for Zoila's Closet, a community service project in Harris's hometown in Peru.

Changemaker Challenge announced its winner on Feb. 18, 2017 in an event at the Memorial Union. There were 30 contestants initially; 17 made it to the finals, and seven (7) were awarded a share of the $40K total purse.

Harris developed her project in her fall 2016 English 302 "Business Writing" course, with the help of ASU English Faculty Associate Elizabeth Ferszt. Harris's idea grew out of several writing and reading assignments from the class, which focused on socially conscious and/or non-traditional business models (TOMS, 10,000 Villages, Airbnb, GreenWave).

The award will help Harris to implement a layered project of clothing exchange, food bank, library, artisans' co-op, and community center in Nuevo Tingo, Kuelap region, Peru.
