English (Linguistics) (Minor)

Program Description
Students who pursue a minor in English with a focus in linguistics study the origins, structures and functions of language. The program provides students with knowledge and skills that enable them to improve their writing, enhance their ability to read and think analytically, and become critical consumers of media.

Current ASU undergraduate students may pursue a minor and have it recognized on their ASU transcript at graduation. Minor requirements appear on the degree audit once the minor is added. Certain major and minor combinations may be deemed inappropriate by the college or department of either the major program or the minor. Courses taken for the minor may not count toward both the major and minor.
Enrollment Requirements
The minor in English with a focus in linguistics consists of 24 credit hours. A minimum of 12 upper-division credits are required, with at least six of these credits from courses offered by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Electives: (6 credit hours)
Electives are chosen from the department's offerings, with at least one course (three credit hours) required at the 300 or 400 level.
A grade of "C" (2.00 on a 4.00 scale) or higher is required in all courses for the minor.
Depending upon a student's undergraduate program of study, prerequisite courses may be needed in order to complete the requirements of this minor.
