Katie Alford is a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Ph.D. student at Arizona State University in English Education. She is a fellow of the National Writing Project and Co-Director for the Central Arizona Writing Project.  Katie taught high school English for nine years in Tempe, Arizona before pursuing her Ph.D.  She has presented at a variety of national conferences including NCTE, CCCC, and the International Interdisciplinary Conference.  She recently published the article "Take Time to Write!: A Teacher’s Story of Writing within a Community of Teacher Writers" in the NCTE journal English Leadership Quarterly.  

Katie’s research interest involves working with teachers and understanding their writing practices, and the impact has on their teaching of writing.  She is interested in teacher-writers and self-efficacy and how those impact the classroom decisions teachers make. She has also studied the writing practices of second language writers transitioning from high school to college writing. This research focuses on what strategies and tools these writers brought with them and learned while writing for their undergraduate degrees.
