The Chaucer Symposium

Chaucer Celebration 2012: Chaucer’s England—Sights, Sounds, Poetry

The Peasants’ Revolt of 1381, which took place primarily in London, is mentioned in “The Canterbury Tales.” This image of the event is from Library Royal MS 18.E.i-ii f. 175, dated c. 1385-1400. It shows London's mayor, Walworth, killing Wat Tyler. There are two images of Richard II. One looks on the killing while the other is talking to the peasants.
